Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is a major hub airport near Guangzhou (Huadu) in China. This page covers the essentials โ IATA + ICAO codes, location, live flight status, and hotels nearby.
Getting to + from the city
Airport Express Line (Metro Line 3) to central Guangzhou in 35 min (ยฅ7). The express bus to Tianhe runs 24h. Taxi to Tianhe is ยฅ120 and ~50 min. CAN is China Southern's main hub โ they fly direct to many African + Australian cities the other hubs don't serve, so it's a real connection point.
Terminals
T1: most international (China Southern, oneworld, non-SkyTeam carriers). T2: domestic + SkyTeam international (China Eastern, Delta, KLM). T1 and T2 are 1.5 km apart, connected by free APM (automated people mover, 3 min). Check your terminal โ the walk between is 25 minutes.
What's actually good
Cantonese food in the food court is the best airside Cantonese you'll find anywhere โ try the Tai Hing or Tim Ho Wan outlets. The First-class Lounge at T2 has an actual dim sum cart. Smoking lounges still operate. The Plaza Premium Lounge at T1 takes Priority Pass + most international lounge cards.
Avoid
Skipping the metro 'because it looks complicated' โ it's English-signed and the cheapest option by far. Taking a taxi during rush hour (Guangzhou traffic is a real thing). Buying duty-free tobacco assuming Chinese duty-free is cheap โ it's not. Arriving without a translation app (CAN is less English-friendly than PEK or PVG).
