Getting to + from the city
RER B to Gare du Nord / Châtelet in 35–45 min for €11.80. The new CDG Express opens 2027. Roissybus to Opéra for €16. Taxi is a flat €56 to the Right Bank or €65 to the Left Bank. Uber typically €50–70. The RER B stations are at T2 + T3; T1 needs a free shuttle to the station.
Terminals
T1: Star Alliance + some random (older, smaller). T2 (A, B, C, D, E, F, G — yes, 7 sub-terminals): Air France + SkyTeam + many oneworld. T3: low-cost. The CDGVAL automated shuttle connects everything every 3 min, free. Don't try to walk between terminals — distances are real (up to 3 km).
What's actually good
Salon Air France La Première (T2E) is the world-tier lounge if you've got the access. Star Alliance Lounge (T1) has an outdoor terrace. Pierre Hermé macarons + Ladurée at multiple locations. Paul bakery is everywhere — the croissants are honest. Skip duty-free perfume (worse than Place Vendôme for the brands you'd actually want).
Avoid
Booking sub-2-hour connections at CDG, ever — even with the CDGVAL, the airport's complexity bites. Skipping the validation step on RER tickets (€50+ fine). Currency exchange at the airport (use a Wise card + ATM). Trying to fly out during a strike day without checking — French air traffic controllers strike regularly. Underestimating passport-control queues on a Sunday morning.
