São Paulo/Guarulhos–Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport
São Paulo/Guarulhos–Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport (GRU) is a major hub airport near São Paulo in Brazil. This page covers the essentials — IATA + ICAO codes, location, live flight status, and hotels nearby.
Getting to + from the city
Airport Express bus (EMTU) to República, Tatuapé, or Bourbon hotel circuit — R$15–25 (~$3–5), 50–90 min. CPTM train (Line 13) to Engenheiro Goulart, then transfer to Metro Line 12. Uber/99 to central São Paulo is R$80–150 and 45–90 min (traffic-dependent — the Marginal can be brutal). GRU is genuinely far from the city; budget time.
Terminals
T1: domestic (Azul, some Gol). T2: mostly domestic + regional international (LATAM domestic). T3: the major international hub (all Star Alliance, oneworld international, many SkyTeam). T2↔T3 is a 5-min free shuttle; T1 is further. Confirm terminal in advance — they're not co-located.
What's actually good
LATAM VIP Lounge (T3) is South America's best — Brazilian breakfast (pão de queijo + cafezinho), full bar, actual showers. The Star Alliance Lounge (T3) serves feijoada on Saturday. Brazilian SIM cards (Vivo, Claro, TIM) sold at arrivals but require CPF — easier to use an eSIM. Free Wi-Fi works for 60 min.
Avoid
Hailing unauthorized cabs in arrivals — use Uber or the yellow Comum taxi queue. Carrying USD cash visibly past customs. Booking connections through GRU with less than 3h buffer (immigration queue at T3 in the morning is brutal). Trying to take public transit with a large suitcase during rush. Drinking the airport tap water.
