Getting to + from the city
Taxi to the Old Quarter is 350,000–450,000 VND (~$15–18) and 35–50 min. Vietnam Airlines + Bamboo Airways shuttle to their respective downtown offices is 40k VND. Grab + Be apps work — typically cheaper than airport taxis. Public bus 86 to the Old Quarter is 35k VND but slow + luggage-limited.
Terminals
T1: domestic. T2: international (all carriers). T1↔T2 free shuttle bus, 5 min. They're a 300 m walk apart but the route isn't pedestrian-friendly (cross airport service roads).
What's actually good
Phở bowls at the airside Phở Thìn or Phở 24 outlets are honest (~$3). Song Hong Business Lounge (T2, Priority Pass) serves bún chả + Vietnamese coffee. SIM at Viettel or Mobifone counter (~$5 for 5 GB) — cheaper than Airalo for longer stays. The Vietnam Airlines lounge is decent for SkyTeam travelers.
Avoid
Letting any taxi 'forget' to use the meter — confirm before doors close, or use Grab. The 500k VND notes look almost identical to the 50k notes in dim light. Buying SIMs from booths in the arrivals corridor (3x the official Viettel kiosk price).
