Inter-terminal walking is feasible airside for most connections; the airport is being rebuilt with the Automated People Mover (APM, opens 2026).
What's actually good
Petrossian (TBIT) does serious caviar + champagne. Star Alliance Lounge (TBIT) has an open-air terrace, one of the best lounge views in the US. Korean Air KAL Lounge (TBIT) is top-tier for any Star+SkyTeam international traveler. In-N-Out is 3 minutes off the airport in Westchester โ the famous plane-spotting burger stop.
Avoid
Driving into LAX during peak (the entire Sepulveda area jams). Booking 90-min connections between non-adjacent terminals. Using the rideshare pickup inside the terminal (it's a fineable offense + Uber won't pick up there). Renting a car at airport rates without comparing the off-site lots. Booking connections through LAX with under 3 hours when arriving internationally.
