Getting to + from the city
Maglev to Longyang Road in 7 minutes (¥50 one-way, the fastest commercial train on Earth at 430 km/h). From Longyang, Metro Line 2 takes you to People's Square in 30 minutes. Metro Line 2 direct to the city is the cheap option (¥9, ~1h15). Taxi to the Bund is ¥180–220 and takes 50 min in light traffic; budget 90 min during rush hours.
Terminals
T1: SkyTeam (Delta, China Eastern, KLM) + some Star Alliance domestic. T2: most Star Alliance (United, ANA, Air China) + oneworld (Cathay, JAL, AA). The two terminals are 1 km apart connected by free shuttle bus (10 min) — DON'T walk it. Check your terminal before arrival; the wrong terminal means an extra hour.
What's actually good
Pudong's food court at T2 is genuinely good — try the Yang's Fry Dumplings or Jia Jia Tang Bao branches. The Air China Lounge in T2 has noodle bars + showers. Free Wi-Fi requires a passport-scan kiosk (find one near the security entrance). Smoking lounges still exist airside in both terminals.
Avoid
Touts offering 'taxi' service in arrivals — use the official taxi queue. Currency exchange at the airport (worse rate than city ATMs). Trying to take Line 2 with a 28+ inch suitcase during rush hour. Underestimating immigration: non-visa-free passport holders can wait 45 min. VPN must be installed BEFORE arrival — Google + most Western apps are blocked once you're past customs.
