Tan Son Nhat International Airport
Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN) is a major hub airport near Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. This page covers the essentials — IATA + ICAO codes, location, live flight status, and hotels nearby.
Getting to + from the city
Taxi is the standard. Vinasun or Mai Linh (the two honest meter brands — green + yellow respectively) to District 1 is 150,000–250,000 VND (~$6–10) and 30–60 min. Grab + Be rideshare apps work. The 109 bus runs to Bến Thành Market for 12,000 VND (the cheapest option). The new metro Line 1 (opened 2024) is across the road but doesn't yet have an airport stop.
Terminals
Two terminals connected by a 5-minute walk: T1 domestic, T2 international. The airport is inside the city — you'll see runways from many tall buildings. New Long Thanh International (LTI) is under construction 40 km east + opens 2026; this hub will eventually be the budget/domestic-only facility.
What's actually good
Phở bowls in the domestic terminal food court are honest + cheap (~80k VND, $3). The Le Saigonnais Lounge (T2) takes Priority Pass and serves bún bò Huế. Free Wi-Fi works for 30 min then asks for an SMS code; bring a local SIM or Airalo eSIM. Massage chairs throughout T2 (20k VND/10 min).
Avoid
Letting any taxi 'forget' to use the meter — confirm 'mở đồng hồ' (turn on the meter) before doors close. The 100,000 VND notes look almost identical to 10,000 VND notes in dim light; count carefully. Buying SIM cards inside the airport (3x the city price — wait until you're in District 1). Booking domestic-international transfers in T1 + T2 with less than 90 min margin.
