Getting to + from the city
Airport Metro Line (Line 14) to central Xi'an in 40 min (¥7). Airport bus to the Bell Tower in 60 min (¥25). Taxi is ¥120–180 + 50 min. XIY is the gateway to the Terracotta Warriors — the army is 30 km east of the city, not the airport.
Terminals
T3 + T5 (recently opened) handle international + most domestic. T2 older, used for some regional. T3 + T5 are co-located + connected airside. Free shuttle to T2.
What's actually good
Try the Xi'an roujiamo (the original 'Chinese hamburger') at the airside food court — Xi'an is the dish's birthplace. Plaza Premium Lounge at T3 takes Priority Pass. Air China Lounge is the better option for Star Alliance travelers. The Terracotta Warriors organize their own convenient transit packages from the airport hotel.
Avoid
Skipping the Terracotta Warriors visit if you're connecting through (a 4–5 hour layover is enough with airport-direct transit). Booking accommodation 'near the airport' when you mean 'near the warriors' — they're 30 km apart in opposite directions from the city. Forgetting your VPN. Eating raw fruit from street stalls.
