The True Creator of the Infinity Gauntlet

⚠️ This involves unreleased or unconfirmed information. Details may change.

The Infinity Gauntlet has two creators: one in the Marvel Comics universe and one in the real world. In the Marvel Comics continuity, the Mad Titan Thanos himself created the physical gauntlet to house the six Infinity Stones, allowing him to wield their combined power simultaneously. He forged it on the planet Xandar, specifically to achieve his goal of balancing the universe by wiping out half of all life.

In the real world, the concept of the Infinity Gauntlet and the epic storyline surrounding it was primarily developed by writer Jim Starlin, with significant artistic contributions from George Pérez and Ron Lim. Starlin had previously introduced Thanos and the Infinity Stones (originally called Soul Gems) in earlier cosmic Marvel stories, laying the groundwork for the iconic 1991 miniseries, The Infinity Gauntlet.

Pro tip: While the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) adapted the Gauntlet's story, it simplified its origin. In the comics, Thanos already possessed the Gauntlet and then sought out the Stones, whereas in the MCU, the Gauntlet was forged by Eitri on Nidavellir specifically for Thanos to collect the Stones.
