2027 model year specs are typically released in the fall of 2026 — right now is peak season. Manufacturers have been rolling out 2027 model year vehicles since August 2026, and the final releases will wrap by November 2026. This is the industry standard calendar, and it has held consistent for decades.
August–September 2026: Luxury and performance brands go first (Tesla, BMW, Mercedes, Porsche). This is when they announce major design changes and new features.
September–October 2026: Mass-market brands follow (Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM, Volkswagen, Hyundai). This is when the bulk of inventory details hit dealer websites and configurators go live.
October–November 2026: Final stragglers and niche brands release remaining specs. By mid-November, virtually all 2027 specs are public.
Model years do not align with calendar years. A '2027 model' is sold throughout 2026 and into 2027. Manufacturers release specs in fall so dealers can begin taking orders during the holiday season — peak car-buying time. By January, most buyers are shopping the new model year.
Pro tip: If you are shopping for a specific model, check the manufacturer's website in late September or early October 2026 — that is when configurators typically go live with full specs, colors, and pricing. Specs released in August are often incomplete or missing color/option details. Also, specs released in early October have better dealer allocation data, so you will know if a specific configuration is actually available to order.
